About Us
Thanks for getting to know Pano! We're a fast-growing community of people who prefer to keep politics in their news—as long as it's clearly labeled and contextualized. Our aim is to provide you with coverage that highlights different perspectives, so you can see the bigger picture and decide for yourself.
Pano was started by me, Sam Laber. Here's me getting rained on with my mom this past Mother's Day in Austin, Texas.

This may come as a surprise, but my background isn't in politics or journalism—and I see that as a strength. Like many of you, I feel that those with more traditional news or political backgrounds haven't been doing the best job lately. Coverage has become more sensationalized, opinions are increasingly presented as fact, and newsrooms are drawing closer to the political parties they support. While these trends aren't universal, they have had a significant impact. Trust in media is at an all-time low, and our country is more divided than ever.
So, what can one guy without a journalism background do to fix America's news problem?
In large part, I believe our problem is one of organization. All the content is out there; it just needs a little order. And as someone who builds data products for a living, bringing order to complex problems is something I'm pretty good at.
With that in mind, Pano is more of a technology company than a newsroom. We constantly monitor 100+ major news outlets across the political spectrum, aggregating and organizing thousands of articles each day. Our scale allows us to identify overlapping topics and key points across articles, then combine them into what we call Pano stories. And because we keep tabs on both sides of the aisle, Pano stories are uniquely suited to present the facts—and partisan opinions—on every news event.
Our goal in all this is simple: we want to bring back meaningful discussions to our coffee shops, water coolers, and dinner tables by providing context and humanity to each side. If that's something you jive with, we think you'll like it here.
As mentioned earlier, Pano is a relatively new venture, so we'd love to hear from you! Feel free to reach out to our team anytime at team@pano.news.
All the best,
-Sam & the Pano team
