The reporting

A neutral summary of the key facts most outlets agree on, drawn from reporting across the political spectrum.

The European Commission fined Chinese online marketplace AliExpress €550 million ($629 million) for failing to curb illegal, unsafe and counterfeit goods on its platform, including unsafe toys, fake clothing, cosmetics and kitchen gadgets. The penalty is the largest imposed under the EU’s Digital Services Act, which requires major online platforms to assess and mitigate systemic risks to consumers. Regulators said AliExpress failed to diligently assess those risks, remove illegal products and make fixes previously ordered by the EU.
