Dr. David Morens, 78, a former senior adviser to Dr. Anthony Fauci at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit offenses and to defraud the United States. Prosecutors said Morens plotted to conceal federal records and evade Freedom of Information Act requests involving COVID-19 research, including questions about the pandemic’s origins. Morens served in NIAID’s Office of the Director from 2006 through 2022. He is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 12 in federal court in Greenbelt, Maryland.
