Auburn Basketball Team Flight Diverted After In-Flight Altercation

The Auburn men’s basketball team was diverted to Montgomery, Alabama, shortly after takeoff when two players engaged in a physical altercation on board. The flight, en route to Houston for a game against the University of Houston, returned after about 40 minutes. The pilot reported the disturbance to air traffic control, and both players were subsequently barred from a later flight, missing the upcoming game. Auburn, ranked No. 11, had recently won their season opener against the University of Vermont.
