ICE Pursuit Ends In Multi-Vehicle Crash In St. Paul

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers pursuing Alexander Romero-Avila caused a multi-vehicle crash at Selby Avenue and Western Avenue North in St. Paul on Feb. 11, 2026, and Romero-Avila was taken to Regents Hospital, the St. Paul Police Department and the Department of Homeland Security said.

The crash occurred amid the federal Operation Metro Surge in the Twin Cities and follows the fatal shootings of Alex Pretti and Renee Nicole Good, incidents marked by conflicting accounts that have heightened scrutiny of federal immigration enforcement, local leaders and media reports show.

Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin told the Daily Caller News Foundation that Romero-Avila, whom she described as a Honduran national released into the U.S. in 2022, drove recklessly, ran red lights and struck multiple vehicles, and that no ICE officers or members of the public were injured.

The St. Paul Police Department said officers were called at 9:39 a.m. and that at least one person sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital.

Independent journalist 'KimKatieUSA' posted video showing a covered person being moved and alleging a six-car crash while MPR News and witnesses described three damaged vehicles, and St. Paul Police and federal authorities said they are investigating and have not announced charges.
