Utah Wildfires Force Evacuations

Extreme heat, drought and gusty winds are fueling several wildfires across the U.S. West, with Utah’s Iron Fire forcing evacuations in and around Eureka, a small town southwest of Salt Lake City. The blaze in Juab County was first detected Saturday and rapidly expanded, with reports placing its footprint at more than 2,000 acres and as much as 34 square miles as officials warned it remained uncontained. Hundreds of residents were ordered to leave as the wind-driven fire threatened the historic mining community, while low humidity and continued hot weather raised the risk of further fire growth. Utah officials, including Gov. Spencer Cox, said crews were stretched by multiple fires statewide and urged residents to remain alert as emergency teams deployed available resources.
