The reporting

A neutral summary of the key facts most outlets agree on, drawn from reporting across the political spectrum.

Josh Kerr broke the men’s mile world record at the London Diamond League, running 3:42.66 to surpass Hicham El Guerrouj’s 3:43.13, set in Rome in 1999. The result made Kerr, a 28-year-old Briton from Edinburgh, the first new holder of the mile record in 27 years and lowered the mark by 0.47 seconds. Kerr also cut nearly three seconds from his personal best, after publicly announcing in late March that he would target the record. American Yared Nuguse finished three seconds behind Kerr.
