The reporting
Authorities found the remains of 56 people improperly stored and decomposing Thursday at South Chicago Chapel, a funeral home at 2939 E. 95th St. on Chicago’s Far South Side. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office is leading the effort to identify the bodies, recover remains from the site and notify relatives. Illinois regulators suspended the license of funeral director Clark Morgan, alleging bodies were kept in unrefrigerated areas in deplorable conditions. Morgan and Johanna Morgan previously operated a Chicago Heights crematory that state officials permanently closed last year after allegations it mishandled more than 100 bodies.
