The restaurant said it asked Sanders to leave after employees and guests expressed they were uncomfortable and feared allowing her to stay could be perceived as a lack of support for its majority team, the restaurant said.
Sanders said the owner told a member of the State Police Executive Protection Detail her presence made employees feel threatened, a claim the restaurant directly refuted by saying it did not recall anyone saying they felt threatened.
The Croissanterie said the party had been seated at two tables, had paid and tipped, and that staff approached security as a 90-minute seating limit approached to ask the governor to conclude her visit.
The restaurant said it reviewed camera footage and confirmed a message was sent to the governor and that once the message was seen she and her party departed, and that a customer who made an inappropriate gesture was addressed.
