Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin on Thursday called Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer a "lying scumbag" in a Fox News interview after Schumer said "nobody respects" ICE and Border Patrol.
Sen. Schumer on the Senate floor rebuked proposed funding, saying "adding $140 billion" to Border Patrol and ICE would be to "agencies that nobody respects in this country."
President Trump on Thursday demanded Schumer immediately apologize on Truth Social, calling the remark "one of the most egregious, incorrect, unpatriotic, and dangerous statements" he has ever heard from a politician.
Republicans advanced legislation to provide another $140 billion for DHS while the partial government shutdown has run a record 68 days and DHS has not had funding since Feb. 14, and employees' final paycheck will be in early May.
Schumer doubled down on Thursday, refusing the $140 billion and saying Republicans will be "accountable in November."
