FBI Director Patel Orders Polygraphs Amid Leak Probe

FBI Director Kash Patel ordered polygraph exams for more than two dozen former and current members of his security detail and other staff, two people briefed on the development said.

The polygraphs followed Patel's directive to open a criminal leak investigation after a published report described him drinking to excess and being difficult to rouse, two people said.

FBI spokesman Ben Williamson disputed claims Patel had walled himself off and said Patel attended the usual operational leader meetings this week.

Three people familiar with his actions said Patel avoided meeting some key operational leaders this week, prompting concerns inside the bureau about his ability to stay abreast of pressing threats and investigations.

Patel has filed a lawsuit alleging defamation, and sources said agents feared they would be asked to examine a reporter's contacts during the criminal leak probe.
