House vote on Iran war powers resolution fails for third time
Overview
The House deadlocked in a 212-212 vote on Thursday, failing for the third time to pass a Democratic resolution to end U.S. hostilities with Iran.
The resolution would have required removal of U.S. forces within 30 days of the wars Feb. 28 start and follows the War Powers Resolutions 60-day deadline that passed on May 1, officials said.
Three House RepublicansReps. Thomas Massie, Brian Fitzpatrick and Tom Barrettvoted with Democrats, while Rep. Jared Golden was the lone Democrat to oppose the measure, according to roll calls.
Senators have rejected seven Democratic war powers measures, most recently losing a 49-50 vote on Wednesday even as GOP Sens. Rand Paul, Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski broke with their party.
Democrats said they will continue forcing votes, Rep. Greg Casar said the Progressive Caucus will press the issue, and Rep. Tom Barrett introduced an AUMF on May 7 that would extend authority until July 30.
Analysis
Center-leaning sources frame Fetterman as an outlier whose vote empowers Trump, using evaluative language like "deciding vote" and "broke with his party," emphasizing his repeated defections and GOP-friendly poll numbers. Source selection highlights Republican critiques and party-switch speculation while foregrounding consequences (Trump's unchecked authority), shaping a narrative of ideological drift and controversy.
