President Donald Trump said Monday he will nominate acting Labor Secretary Keith Sonderling to lead the Department of Labor permanently, a Cabinet role requiring Senate confirmation. Sonderling has run the department in an acting capacity since Lori Chavez-DeRemer left the post in April after abuse-of-power allegations. Trump announced the pick on Truth Social, praising Sonderling’s record and saying he has “proven his dedication to delivering strong results for the Hardworking People of our Country.” Sonderling previously served in senior labor roles across Trump’s administrations, including as deputy labor secretary, and would formally take over the agency if confirmed by the Senate.
