The reporting
On July 13, 2026, President Donald Trump marked the second anniversary of the July 13, 2024, assassination attempt at his Butler, Pennsylvania, rally, saying “God was with me” after a bullet grazed his upper right ear. The gunman, 20-year-old Thomas Crooks, fired from a nearby roof before a Secret Service sniper killed him. Rally attendee Corey Comperatore was killed while protecting his family, and two other attendees were wounded. Trump also pointed to security failures around an empty building as watchdog scrutiny of the Secret Service response continued.
