The reporting

A neutral summary of the key facts most outlets agree on, drawn from reporting across the political spectrum.

Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) drew conservative backlash after comments Tuesday at a House Oversight subcommittee hearing on the Smithsonian, where she called the proceeding the Republicans’ “White Pride rally.” During questioning of Yale historian David Blight, Crockett discussed World Cup rooting involving Argentina and cited the country’s history of racism. Blight said Argentina has a racial history but expressed uncertainty about how it related to soccer fandom. Republicans and conservative commentators responded by calling for Crockett to be censured.

Manufactured racism chargesLeans Right

Crockett’s accusations of white supremacy were political theater rather than proof of widespread racism. Calling the hearing a “White Pride rally” and portraying support patterns as racist showed anti-white bias instead of a serious argument.

Jasmine Crockett wrongly injected race into discussion of Argentina and World Cup fan preferences. Her argument amounted to race-baiting, and it fell apart when others would not support the premise.
