The reporting
The Senate Intelligence Committee voted 9-8 on July 21, along party lines, to advance Jay Clayton’s nomination for director of national intelligence to the full Senate. Clayton is President Donald Trump’s nominee and currently serves as U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York. Democrats opposed the nomination after Clayton’s confirmation hearing earlier this month. GOP leaders are seeking a Senate floor vote before the August congressional recess.
