The reporting

A neutral summary of the key facts most outlets agree on, drawn from reporting across the political spectrum.

The State Department on Monday released a 100-page report, "Cuba: The Capital of 21st Century Communism," accusing Havana of decades of espionage, subversion and coordination with US adversaries. The report says Cuba acts as "connective tissue" for an anti-American coalition and alleges ties or support involving Iran, Hamas, left-wing US advocacy networks, Antifa and organizers of unrest after George Floyd’s death. Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s department also sent an initial Miami aid flight with food and hygiene kits for up to 700 Cuban families, part of a stated $100 million commitment.

Threat Claims OverstatedLeans Left

Washington’s case that Cuba is a major security threat is overstated and weakly supported. The island’s hardship and the thin evidence tying Havana to U.S. left-wing groups make the alarmism difficult to justify.
