The reporting

A neutral summary of the key facts most outlets agree on, drawn from reporting across the political spectrum.

US District Judge Alvin Hellerstein set June 1, 2027, as the trial start date for former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, on US drug-trafficking charges. Maduro appeared in Manhattan federal court for his third pretrial hearing and has pleaded not guilty. Maduro, 63, and Flores, 69, have been held in a Brooklyn jail since US forces seized them from their Caracas home during a military operation in January. Maduro’s lawyer plans to challenge the legality of that operation.
