The reporting

A neutral summary of the key facts most outlets agree on, drawn from reporting across the political spectrum.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy fired commander in chief Oleksandr Syrskyi on Tuesday and named Mykhailo Drapatyi to lead the armed forces. The move followed six days of protests triggered by Zelenskyy’s removal last Wednesday of Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, whose dispute with Syrskyi the president cited as irresolvable. Zelenskyy later offered Fedorov a new deputy prime minister role, saying he wanted him to remain in government. Fedorov rejected an alternative post on Thursday and said he wanted to return as defense minister.
