The reporting
Former Wisconsin Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes suspended his campaign for the Democratic nomination for governor on Thursday, less than two weeks before the Aug. 11 primary. Barnes said in a social media video that “it’s become very clear who our nominee is going to be,” as state Rep. Francesca Hong led the field and he trailed by wide margins in recent polling. More than 117,000 absentee ballots had been returned by July 29, when Judge David Conway ruled voters could not void already-cast ballots and request new ones.
