Summary
U.S. District Judge Amit P. Mehta granted the Justice Department’s unopposed request to permanently dismiss remaining Jan. 6, 2021, charges against Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes and seven other affiliates. The order ends the seditious conspiracy prosecution that sent Rhodes to 18 years in prison for his role in the Capitol attack. Mehta wrote that he granted the motion “reluctantly” and rejected efforts to recast Jan. 6. The dismissal follows President Donald Trump’s pardons of more than 1,500 Jan. 6 defendants, wiping out about 1,270 convictions and ending pending cases.
