Justice Alito Stays On Court

Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito, 76, said he will remain on the Court for its next term, stating in an interview, “Obviously, I’m here for another term.” His statement ends speculation that he could retire this year and give President Donald Trump another vacancy to fill with a younger conservative nominee. The retirement talk intensified after NPR published and retracted a June 30 report saying Alito was stepping down at the end of the Court’s term. Alito also said he would decide cases based on his interpretation of the law, not on whether outcomes appear aligned with Trump.
