The reporting

A neutral summary of the key facts most outlets agree on, drawn from reporting across the political spectrum.

The House Ethics Committee announced Monday that it is reviewing allegations Rep. Jimmy Gomez, D-Calif., may have violated House conduct rules through sexual misconduct, including “inappropriate sexual contact with a House staffer.” The committee said the disclosure does not mean Gomez violated any rule and that the review is proceeding under Committee Rule 18(a). Public allegations against Gomez include a reported 2023 incident in which he kissed a staffer from another congressional office. Gomez said he respects the process, will cooperate and made “personal mistakes outside my marriage,” while saying his actions were consensual.
