The reporting

A neutral summary of the key facts most outlets agree on, drawn from reporting across the political spectrum.

Democratic state Sen. Aisha Wahab won the special election runoff in California’s 14th Congressional District, defeating fellow Democrat Melissa Hernandez, president of the Bay Area Rapid Transit Board, to finish former Rep. Eric Swalwell’s House term. Swalwell resigned in April after accusations of sexual assault and harassment, which he denies. Wahab overcame AIPAC-aligned outside spending, including $4.4 million reported in the race, after placing first in the June 2 primary. She will represent the East Bay district until January 2027.
