U.S. Sanctions Iranian Airlines

The Trump administration imposed sanctions on 27 Iranian airline operators and nine foreign service providers and sales agents tied to Mahan Air, extending U.S. restrictions across Iran’s aviation sector. The Treasury Department said the targeted airlines and aviation firms helped move weapons, personnel and illicit cargo for Iran and supported Mahan Air, which has been under U.S. sanctions since 2011 over links to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The measures fall under Operation Economic Outcast, Washington’s campaign to financially isolate Tehran. The penalties freeze any U.S.-linked assets and generally bar U.S. persons from dealing with the designated entities.
