The reporting
President Donald Trump’s departure from Joint Base Andrews for Dallas was briefly delayed Wednesday after a military aide accidentally deployed an inflatable emergency slide on the new Qatar-gifted Air Force One before he boarded. Trump remained aboard Marine One while crews dealt with the slide on the tarmac. He was traveling to speak at the Republican Party’s midterm convention, described by the RNC as its first such midterm gathering. Trump told reporters the slide was being checked and indicated the plane was cleared to continue the trip after the issue was resolved.
Analysis & opinion
No slide alarmBalanced
Trump’s claim that the emergency slide was deployed intentionally does not hold up. The incident before the Dallas trip was not a serious warning sign or a reason for public alarm.
