The White House withdrew Lance Schroyer’s nomination to lead U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. It gave no explanation, and the withdrawal notice simply listed him among nominations pulled. Schroyer had been nominated in June, but his confirmation stalled before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee held a hearing. Committee chair Sen. Rand Paul held up the hearing while seeking more information about investigations into the fatal shootings of two U.S. citizens by federal agents in Minneapolis. Paul’s office said he has not opposed Schroyer personally. Schroyer had Oklahoma law-enforcement experience, but not leadership experience at ICE. David Venturella remains acting director for now.
