What happened

U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly questioned the Trump administration’s removal of CNN, MS NOW and Politico from White House grounds, saying officials appeared not to give proper due process before cutting off access. The outlets sued to restore their credentials, arguing the ban violates free-speech and due-process protections after Trump called their coverage “fake news” and negative. The Justice Department said White House access is a privilege, not a right, and argued the president may control entry to restricted presidential spaces. Trump’s lawyers cited national security and professionalism concerns, while the outlets said his remarks showed retaliation. Kelly did not immediately lift the ban and said he would rule soon.
