Trump Press Ban Persists
Outlets say the White House kept them from Xi's dinner despite a judge's order.
What happened
White House security initially kept CNN, MS NOW and Politico reporters off the grounds Thursday morning, even after a federal judge ordered their credentials restored. The outlets were allowed back in around noon, hours after U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly temporarily blocked the ban for 14 days. The White House had revoked access after President Donald Trump accused the outlets of publishing “fake news.” His team later argued in court that the restriction served national security, while the outlets called it retaliation for critical coverage. Kelly said the government lacked factual support for that claim and denied adequate due process. The order is temporary, and Trump has signaled he will keep fighting.
