Overview
An 18-year-old former student opened fire inside Ahmet Koyuncu Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in Siverek, wounding at least 16 people before killing himself after being cornered by police, Governor Hasan Sildak said.
The attacker fired randomly with a shotgun inside the vocational school and later used the same shotgun to kill himself, Sildak said.
Sildak said a 'comprehensive' investigation will be carried out and that the attacker had no criminal record and the school had been declared safe with no permanent police officer assigned.
The wounded include 10 students, four teachers, a canteen employee and a police officer, and five of the teachers and students were transferred to a hospital in the provincial capital for more serious injuries.
Local media reported the assailant had threatened an attack on social media, authorities evacuated the school and police special operations units responded as video showed students fleeing the building.
Analysis
Center-leaning sources frame the attack as a shocking but isolated incident, emphasizing official reassurances and rarity to limit systemic questions. Editorial choices foreground governor statements (no criminal record, school “considered safe”), chronological facts and witness quotes for immediacy, while omitting deeper analysis of motive or firearms access; quoted material remains source content.
