The reporting

A neutral summary of the key facts most outlets agree on, drawn from reporting across the political spectrum.

The International Olympic Committee announced Tuesday that it provisionally lifted the Russian Olympic Committee’s suspension, clearing a path for Russian athletes and teams to compete under national Olympic structures before the 2028 Los Angeles Games. The IOC also advised Olympic sports federations to end a three-year vetting system that limited Russians and Belarusians to neutral status for qualifying events. The suspension began in 2023 after the ROC asserted authority over sports bodies in Ukrainian territories occupied by Russia; the IOC said that interference has ended.
