The reporting

A neutral summary of the key facts most outlets agree on, drawn from reporting across the political spectrum.

More than 100,000 customers in Hawaii were without power after Tropical Storm Lala passed the main islands, uprooting trees and flooding roads from Honolulu to the Big Island. The storm, which had been a Category 1 hurricane, weakened to a tropical storm Sunday without making landfall and was moving west of Hawaii Monday. On the Big Island, collapsed highway sections, submerged bridges and floodwaters cut off Pahala, a town of about 1,800 with the region’s only hospital. At least one person died, nearly 200 flights were postponed, and at least 100 homes and bridges were damaged.
