The reporting
Twenty-six current and former Meta employees filed a federal lawsuit Monday in Northern California alleging the company used internal AI-assisted workplace tools to choose workers for its May layoffs. The plaintiffs say the systems relied on employee-monitoring and performance data that penalized or flagged people who took medical, parental or family leave, requested disability accommodations, or were pregnant. Meta said in May it would cut about 8,000 employees, roughly 10% of its workforce, and close about 6,000 open roles. The complaint alleges violations of protected-leave and anti-discrimination laws.
