What happened

Will Reeve, the ABC News correspondent and son of Christopher Reeve and Dana Reeve, publicly revealed that he was diagnosed with testicular cancer earlier this year. An ultrasound led to an early May orchiectomy, surgery to remove the cancerous testicle. Reeve said he first noticed a lump in April, after which his wife Amanda urged him to see a doctor. A second June operation removed dozens of lymph nodes from his abdomen, and some were cancerous. Doctors diagnosed embryonal carcinoma, a rare and aggressive form that often affects younger men. Reeve chose two cycles of chemotherapy to lower the chance of return. He said he finished treatment by late July and is cancer-free.

How each side covered it

From the left

Left-leaning coverage framed the disclosure as a brave account of survival, stressing Reeve’s willingness to tell a hard personal story. The Daily Beast centered his stated reason for going public: that sharing struggles can help other people. It also connected his outlook to his parents’ example of turning hardship into hopeful advocacy.

From the right

Right-leaning coverage treated the news more as a celebrity health revelation, with public-health lessons close behind. The Daily Mail led with Reeve as Christopher Reeve’s son and emphasized the rarity of the diagnosis. The New York Post used the disclosure to explain testicular cancer and the value of recognizing it early. The Daily Mail also lingered on his family’s history of illness and loss.
