Two U.S. soldiers were killed when a Fort Hood-based AH-64 Apache attack helicopter crashed into a field near Salado, Texas, around 1:35 p.m. local time on Wednesday. Bell County officials said the two people aboard were pronounced dead at the scene after 911 calls reported the wreckage south of the village, about 50 miles north of Austin. The crash ignited a grass fire, prompted evacuations of several nearby homes, and closed FM-2843 as fire crews responded. Authorities had not released a cause or the soldiers' names.
