What happened

Dutch police arrested a 24-year-old Amsterdam man on suspicion of belonging to ShinyHunters, a cybercrime group. Authorities said he is separately suspected of trying to incite or arrange two murders, based on laptop material. The arrest came before ShinyHunters publicly claimed it had hacked the FBI jobs website and stolen bureau personnel data. FBI Cyber Division assistant director Brett Leatherman said the group has allegedly breached more than 140 organizations since last year and taken at least $70 million in extortion payments. FBI Director Kash Patel said U.S. and Dutch teams were pursuing more leads after the arrest. A Rotterdam court ordered the suspect held for another 90 days.

How each side covered it

From the right

Right-leaning outlets framed the case as a joint law-enforcement win against a global cybercrime threat, not mainly as a data-breach scare. Fox News emphasized the FBI-Dutch operation against a cybercrime network. It also cited Dutch police saying further arrests remained possible as seized devices are examined. Newsmax lingered on Dutch police’s allegation that the suspect tried to arrange murders.
