A Texas federal prosecutor disclosed that Lorenzo Salgado Araujo’s van hit an ICE vehicle only after an officer fired the shot that killed him, complicating DHS’s earlier self-defense account. Salgado Araujo, a 52-year-old Mexican national and longtime U.S. resident, was killed during a Houston ICE stop of a work van; his family and passengers dispute the government’s version, and agents had no body cameras. Democrats are also pressing DHS on ICE vetting and training after the Maine officer who fatally shot Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero was described by relatives as having serious mental health and abuse concerns. ICE has resumed vehicle stops under rules requiring at least one body camera, specialized prosecutions training and an operational justification.
