Trump Eases Iran Rhetoric

President Donald Trump said Sunday the U.S. is “low keying” its approach to Iran and is prepared to rely on mounting economic pressure rather than order another major military offensive. Trump said Washington is “only semi-negotiating” with Tehran while watching Iran’s inflation and economic strain, after previously threatening to resume major combat operations. Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, said Tehran is not in direct talks with the U.S. and will only restart diplomacy if Washington meets its conditions and stops what Tehran calls violations of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. The Pentagon has asked U.S. defense companies to increase production as weapons stockpiles run low during the Iran war.
