Groups Challenge Trump Birthright Order

Immigrant- and civil-rights groups led by the ACLU asked a federal judge on Aug. 11 to block President Donald Trump’s two new executive orders restricting birthright citizenship. The filing returned to the same New Hampshire court where plaintiffs including CASA and the pseudonymous Barbara challenged Trump’s earlier order, arguing the new directives create unauthorized exceptions to the 14th Amendment’s Citizenship Clause. The challenge says the orders, including one aimed at birth tourism, defy the Supreme Court’s June 30 ruling against Trump’s prior attempt to narrow citizenship for U.S.-born children.
