The reporting

A neutral summary of the key facts most sources agree on, drawn from reporting across the political spectrum.

Senate Democrats led by Sen. Richard Blumenthal demanded answers from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and acting Navy Secretary Hung Cao about reports of food shortages, broken plumbing and mental health crises aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln. The carrier has been deployed since Nov. 21 and at sea more than 250 days with thousands of sailors and Marines aboard. One 19-year-old sailor went overboard on Aug. 3 and was rescued after about an hour; his wife said the Navy contacted her four days later. Hegseth said the reports were "completely misrepresented" but did not deny specific complaints.
