The reporting

A neutral summary of the key facts most outlets agree on, drawn from reporting across the political spectrum.

Germany on Tuesday blamed Russia for an attempted explosive-drone attack at Leipzig/Halle Airport, where a drone was found on Aug. 4 near Ukrainian cargo aircraft. Officials said the device failed to detonate because of a faulty detonator and was defused at the eastern German airport. Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said investigators linked the drone configuration, components, explosives and cyber technology to Russian hybrid operations and Moscow’s war against Ukraine. Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul announced closures including Russia’s consulate in Bonn and the Russian House cultural center in Berlin.

Putin’s Hybrid ThreatLeft & Center

Germany is justified in pointing to Russia over the Leipzig airport drone attack because Putin is conducting a reckless hybrid campaign against NATO. The attribution undercuts any attempt to portray Putin as trustworthy or nonthreatening.
