Judge Blocks Trump Birthright Order

U.S. District Judge Deborah Boardman in Maryland issued a preliminary injunction blocking President Donald Trump’s Aug. 6 executive order to limit birthright citizenship. The order sought to deny automatic U.S. citizenship to some children born in the country, including children whose parents are “alien enemies,” foreign government employees or involved in so-called “birth tourism.” Boardman wrote that the order was “almost certainly unconstitutional” and said the administration misread the Supreme Court’s June ruling on Trump’s earlier birthright-citizenship order. The case is a class-action lawsuit brought by immigrant families and advocacy groups.
