Argentine President Javier Milei said Thursday his government will pursue sanctions against companies developing oil fields around the Falkland Islands, the British overseas territory Argentina claims as the Malvinas. In a nationally televised address, Milei said Argentina needs to recover the islands and pledged more funding for a naval base in Tierra del Fuego. He cited Donald Trump’s statement that the U.S. position on the dispute was being reviewed. Downing Street said UK support for the islanders’ choice to remain British is “unwavering.”
