What happened

Texas authorities arrested Benny Caldera Jr., 40, on suspicion of plotting a violent attack on the Texas Capitol in Austin. SWAT officers arrested him around 3 a.m. at a Converse home near San Antonio after investigators worked with the FBI. The Texas Department of Public Safety said it received credible information about a planned Thursday attack after a Tuesday evening tip. An arrest affidavit described by NBC News said a friend told investigators Caldera said he was going to “shoot it up” and made anti-AIPAC comments. Caldera was charged with felony terroristic threat against a public servant, held in Bexar County Jail, then released on $75,000 bond. Abbott and Patel praised the response. The case comes amid concern over threats to public officials. Officials said the investigation is ongoing, leaving open whether more charges or details will emerge.
