What happened

Trump signed a White House executive order directing federal agencies to use “super intelligence” or “SI” instead of “artificial intelligence” or “AI” in official communications. Tech leaders from Google, Anthropic, Meta, OpenAI, xAI and Nvidia appeared with him and signed a nonbinding accord. The rename aims to soften public distrust of AI and data centers amid fights over jobs, energy use and safety risks. Trump said “super” was the simplest word and his branch would drop AI. California Gov. Gavin Newsom rejected the move, called the meeting “bullshit,” and ordered state agencies to keep using AI. It remains unclear whether the wording will stick outside the executive branch.
