The reporting
Josh Kushner and Bob Iger agreed to buy a controlling stake in the Los Angeles Lakers from Mark Walter in a deal valuing the NBA franchise at $12.5 billion. The price would set a record for a U.S. sports franchise and follows Walter’s acquisition of majority control at a $10 billion valuation. The sale requires approval from the NBA Board of Governors before it can close. Kushner founded Thrive Capital and is Jared Kushner’s brother; Iger is Disney’s former chief executive.
Analysis & opinion
Trump-linked influenceLeft & Center
Trump administration pressure may have played a role in helping Josh Kushner buy the Lakers. The deal deserves scrutiny because it benefited Jared Kushner’s brother and may have been influenced by government pressure on Mark Walter.
