The reporting

A neutral summary of the key facts most outlets agree on, drawn from reporting across the political spectrum.

Renowned British-Nepali mountaineer Nirmal “Nimsdai” Purja and nine other climbers were confirmed dead Saturday after an avalanche swept through their expedition on Broad Peak in Pakistan’s Karakoram range. The avalanche struck around noon on Thursday while Purja was leading a group on the world’s 12th-highest mountain, and search teams are trying to recover the bodies. Purja, featured in Netflix’s 14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible, became known in 2019 for climbing all 14 peaks above 8,000 meters in just over six months.
