The reporting

A neutral summary of the key facts most sources agree on, drawn from reporting across the political spectrum.

Canada put its military on standby Monday after British Columbia requested federal help for wildfires that have killed one person and forced thousands from homes. The Bald Range fire near Summerland and Peachland triggered evacuation orders for more than 20,000 people and was reported at roughly 136.2 square kilometres. British Columbia remained under a state of emergency as crews fought 104 fires, 45% of them out of control. Across the western U.S., more than 40 large fires were burning, including three Washington blazes over 100,000 acres each.
