Nepal-China Floods Kill 160

At least 160 people have been killed and hundreds remain missing after an Aug. 26 flash flood tore through the Nepal-China border area, including Nepal’s Rasuwagadhi crossing and Tibet’s Gyirong area. Missing lists include foreign tourists, with Nepali officials reporting 47 Americans unaccounted for and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese saying 34 Australians are missing. Scientists and authorities are examining whether an ice-and-rock avalanche from a high-altitude glacier sent floodwater and mud down the Bhote Koshi River. Flooding buried villages, destroyed roads and bridges, and left nearly 10,000 households needing immediate relief.
