What happened

Russia launched a large overnight missile-and-drone attack on Kyiv and nearby regions, knocking out power after Ukrainian officials said energy sites were targeted. Ukrainian officials said at least four people were killed in the capital and region, including a child. The strike landed as Ukraine prepares for winter with its power system already strained. Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi said it was the largest attack on energy infrastructure since the last heating season ended. DTEK said crews restored power to about 8,000 customers, while grid damage remained. Russia said it hit energy and communications sites; Ukraine said homes, businesses, railways and warehouses were also damaged. Analysts warn larger winter barrages may follow.
